Its President's Day! I kind of forgot about that. So guess what? No school on Monday!! (Except Literature Group, for which you are quite well prepared.)

On with the show!

For History we're moving past the Revolution and into the building of the country. The people are going to be expanding from the Atlantic coast to the west. We'll discuss the Louisiana Purchase, the War of 1812, and how this affected the Native Americans.

For Math we're moving into Chapter 3 which introduces decimals. Decimals are just another way of writing fractions, or numbers that are less than 1.
Monday: Lesson 3.1 Decimals and Place Value-I want to go over this with you, so we're going to do this on Monday. I want to be really sure that you understand it before we mve on to any other lessons. We'll be doing pages 80-83 1-35 odd
Tuesday: Lesson 3.2-Adding and Subtracting with Decimals. The key to adding and subtracting with decimals is lining the decimal points up. Fill in zeros if you need to to make it even out.

Other than that its just regular addition and subtraction.

Here is a video to help explain if you need it.

Do a couple of your skill check problems and see if you are confident in solving the problems. Do p. 84-85, numbers 1-30 even
Wednesday: Lesson 3.3-Rounding Decimals-again we're rounding. With decimals it is only different because you have more places to round to. Look at the chart on p. 85 in your book to help you.
This chart will help you also:
Do p. 87-88, numbers 1-34 even
Thursday: Lesson 3.4 Solving Decimal Equations: Using Addition and Subraction-We have a pattern forming here. New skill (this week is decimals), add/subtract, round, solve equations. You're probably going to see this pattern in every chapter. You already know how to solve an equation, the only difference with decimals is that you have to line up your decimals when you add and subtract-which we've already learned how to do.

Look back at p. 14 and 15 to see examples of solving a simple equation if you need to.
Do p. 89-90, numbers 1-36 even.

For Science we're moving on to the other senses-hearing, touch, taste and smell.

Feb. 8-12, 2016

Happy Early Valentine's Day, sweet girl!!  I love you so much. I enjoyed spending the day with you on Sunday. I hope you are really liking Bethany Baptist. There seems to be a really nice group of kids there. You're amazing and they already know it :).

Now, let's move on!!

For History we're past the Revolution now. We are an independent country, separate from England. So now what??  Now that we aren't dependent on the government of another country to run things, we have to establish a government of our own. Chapter 12 deals with the U.S. Constitution. The Constitution is the framework for our government. Even today, when someone wants to make a law, they have to make sure it lines up with the Constitution that became law over 200 years ago. One thing I am going to require you to do this week is to memorize the preamble (like the introduction) to the Constitution. Its really not difficult if you break it down.
Who?  We the people of the United States
Why? In order to form:
1. a more perfect union
2. establish justice
3. insure domestic tranquility
4. provide for the common defense,
5. promote the general welfare
6. and secure the blessings of liberty
For who? for ourselves and our posterity
Do what? 1. do ordain
2. and establish
What? this Constitution for the United States of America
